Fiberglass Statues
I have painted a couple of fiberglass statues for community events. These have been auctioned off to benefit each community in some noble way. They were quite a challenge for me to paint and haul to various locations and I couldn't have done it without the help of my husband Dale and sons, Jeremy and Travis.
West Yellowstone's "Buffalo Roam" Project
In the Time of the White Buffalo Calf Woman
The Buffalo Roam project was WYED's (West Yellowstone Economic Development Council, Inc) first project created to fulfill it's primary purpose of helping fund local, non-profit charitable organizations and enhance the appreciation of Yellowstone Park, historic West Yellowstone and the American Indian through artistic expression. Each cow statue is 8 feet long by 26 inches high. 25 artists were selected to depict their interpretation of one of those themes. I had the honor of being one of those artists and I chose to portray the White Buffalo Calf Woman because the statue is a "Cow' and I wanted to stick with a female theme, and I have always found the legend of the White Buffalo Calf Woman so interesting, I wanted to honor her and her story through this statue. I added animals of West Yellowstone in the clouds. The colors black, red, yellow, and white are highly significant in her story. I'll not go into that here, but it is worth looking up and reading about. This statue was auctioned off in the Fall of 2009.

Madison County's "Fish Out of Water " Project
Mountain Maiden/Mer-Maiden
Twelve "Fish Out of Water" sculptures were auctioned off at the " Ennis on the Madison Fly Fishing Festival" over Labor Day weekend in 2009. The proceeds were split between the artists and 13 local non profit agencies committed to the betterment of Madison County, Montana. The proceeds for this statue benefited the Sheridan Main Street Improvement Team and was sponsored by the Moraine Foundation. The buyer will be placing the statue in a local Aquatics Center upon the Center's completion.
I was fortunate to be selected to paint one of these fish. I chose a fantasy theme to paint my beauty. Following is her description:
Mountain Maiden/Mer-Maiden depicts the playful nature of native Maidens coming out to play by the light of the crescent moon & Aurora Borealis. Mountain Maiden comes by way of mountain & valley, crawling down to the river to nudge her friend out of the water. Mer-Maiden awakens, leaping from the water in the entanglements of the jetsom and flotsom of willow leaves, feathers, bubbles, and rainbow trout. The mystic friends frolic together under a glittery umbrella of night sky until the morning comes, disappearing into the landscape and river for their day's rest in dreamy anticipation of another night's play.
